Free SSL Certificates with Let's Encrypt in DirectAdmin Print

  • 0

Every hosting account includes free SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt, issued and renewed automatically through DirectAdmin. You do not need to buy a certificate to serve your website over HTTPS.

Issuing your first certificate

  1. Log in to your DirectAdmin account.
  2. Open Account Manager > SSL Certificates.
  3. Select Free & automatic certificate from Let's Encrypt.
  4. Choose the domains and subdomains the certificate should cover. A wildcard (*.example.com) is available when your DNS is hosted with us.
  5. Optionally tick Force SSL with https:// so visitors are always redirected to the secure version of your site.
  6. Click Save. The certificate is issued within a minute and installed for your website.

Renewals

Let's Encrypt certificates are valid for 90 days. DirectAdmin renews them automatically in the background, so there is nothing for you to do. If a renewal ever fails, for example after a DNS change, open SSL Certificates again and save once to reissue.

Good to know

  • Let's Encrypt applies rate limits per registered domain. Issuing a wildcard plus many subdomains at once can hit them; if it does, wait about an hour and try again.
  • For mail hostnames we maintain the certificate on the mail server for you, so email clients stay secure without any action on your part.
  • If you need extended validation or organization-validated certificates, paid options are available in the SSL section of our store.
